Teaching business English to advanced-level learners.
What does today’s advanced-level Business English learner look like? What might they already know? What don’t they yet know? What do they still have problems with? What do they need from you? In this presentation, we will examine these questions and others in order to identify some ways to best meet the needs of our advanced-level students. Using examples from Business Benchmark Advanced and other Cambridge University Press advanced-level Business English titles, we will look at speaking, listening, reading, writing and lexis, as well as examine what the Common European Framework says about advanced-level learners, and what that might mean in terms of actual classroom activities.
Adapting self-study ESP material for the classroom - some practical ideas and approaches.
The 'Professional English in Use' series from Cambridge University Press gives learners the chance to learn and practise the key terms and collocations used in their fields. Although primarily designed as self-study tools, the books can easily be adapted for more communicative use in the classroom. This interactive workshop will look at some practical ideas for using the 'Professional English in Use' titles in class. Although tasks will be based on material from the five existing books – Finance, Law, Medicine, ICT and Marketing – many of the ideas and approaches suggested in the workshop will be of equal use to teachers not using books from the series.

Blended Learning – Innovation in English Language teaching from Cambridge University Press.
This session will give a brief reminder of what blended learning is, before taking a look at some key Cambridge blended learning initiatives. We will cover the new Cambridge B1 Course and Cambridge Financial English, before focusing on two major new projects. English360 is an innovative web platform that enables teachers to create their own material, mix it with Cambridge content, and re-sequence it to deliver personalised learning paths to students; and Touchstone Online is a multi-level general English course that takes a truly unique approach to blended learning by offering the teacher complete flexibility with the mix of classroom delivery and online self-study.
